August Zerbe was a local politician who lived in East Doncaster and served at least twice as President of the Shire of Doncaster.
The land East Doncaster Secondary College is built on was originally owned by Augustus Zerbe, who with other land owners used the land largely for growing apples and pears. The school site is 17 acres in area and is believed to have been purchased for $990 per acre during the 1960s from the Zerbe family.

Zerbe Ave, Doncaster, may be named after Zerbe or a member of his family.
