The Conservatory of Music, Nantes, was established in 1846. It was initially an annex of the Conservatory of Music in Paris.

Today in France the Conservatoire National de Region de Nantes is a municipal organisation under the control of the minister of culture. Each year it welcomes more than 2,000 pupils, most from the Bretagne and Loire regions. It participates actively in the artistic life of the city, in partnership with other cultural establishments in Nantes. It provides tuition in dance as well as music, including singing, orchestral instruments, historic/traditional music, jazz and African percussion.

Museum Victoria holds a bronze second prize medal issued by the Conservatory in 1882 to Marie Baltzinger for piano.
