George Gammon Adams was born in Britain. He was articled to William Wyon in the Royal Mint between 1837 and 1841 or 1842. After leaving the Mint he received further instruction from B. Pistrucci in modelling and cutting dies. In 1851 he received the Jurors medal prize for the London International Exhibition, his design being used for the reverse, with the conjoined heads by Wyon for the obverse. He executed four medals for the Corporation of the City of London.
