Gilbert Bayes was a sculptor and medallist who first exhibited at the Royal Academy at the age of 17. He did the obverse of the Scott Antarctic medal of the Royal Geographic Society in 1904. His work was exhibited at the 1900 Paris International Exhibition and received an honourable mention. He designed the King's Police Medal of Edward VII and many of the Great Seals of the UK for George V.
