ICOMON is an acronym for International Committee for Money and Banking Museums. It is a committee of ICOM (International Council of Museums). ICOMON was created for museums of numismatics (either as completely independent institutions or as part of larger and more general collections) and museums of financial and economic institutions or companies. ICOMON is exclusively dedicated to museological issues and is a forum of discussion for problems including the acquisition and conservation of objects, theft, management, educational projects, conceptual questions, presentation and display and control of climatological conditions. The committee offers its members discussions and organises annual meetings.

ICOM has 29 International Committees, each devoted to the study of a particular type of museum or to a specific museum-related discipline. Through its International Committees ICOM achieves its major objectives: the exchange of scientific information at an international level, the development of professional standards, the adoption of rules and recommendations, and the realisation of collaborative projects. The Committees are represented by their president at the ICOM Advisory Committee.

The president/secretary of ICOMON in 2003 was Richard Doty, Curator, National Numismatic Collection, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, USA.

ICOMON commissioned a medal for the ICOM Conference Melbourne 1998. Their Secretary at the time was a Belgian. The medals were made by a Belgium-based company, Fibru.
