Marjorie Jackson-Nelson AC, CVO, MBE, participated in the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony as one of the final four Queen's Baton runners with Cathy Freeman, Ron Clarke, and John Landy.

She won 4 gold medals at the Auckland Empire Games in 1950. In 1952, at the Helsinki Olympics, she won the gold medal for the 100m and 200m. In the 1954 Vancouver Empire Games, she won gold for the 100m, 200m and relay.

Marjory Jackson-Nelson was the first Australian to win an Olympic gold medal for track and field, and the first Australian, male or female, to win a gold medal on the track since 1896.

She was the 33rd Governor of South Australia from 2001 until 2007.
