Born in Hampton, Victoria on 9 May 1915 as the middle child of three sons and educated at Hampton High School. Ron Titchner joined the RAAF on 3 September 1935 and served until discharged on 1 August 1946.

He then went into business with Bill Watts, and they founded 'Robilt Products' in 1946 with premises above shops at 2A & 2C Willis Street, Armadale, Victoria. Robilt became one of the largest makers of model trains in terms of quantity and model range. In 1950 Robilt was taken over by Rytime in Sandringham, and the business traded as 'Rytime-Robilt'.

Ron Titchener began making accurate railway scale models about 1950. He donated a number of model trains to the Museum and was later commissioned to build a large working oil well pump model. His last recorded commissioned model for the Museum was a fruiterer's van delivered in 1983. A number of other horse-drawn vehicle models built by Ron Titchener are held by the Castlemaine Museum. He later worked in a factory making yacht fittings. He died on 24 May 2000 at the age of 85.
