Sir William Lygon, 7th Earl Beauchamp was born on 20 February 1872 in London, England, and died on 15 November 1938 at age 66.

He was the son of Frederick Lygon, 6th Earl Beauchamp and Lady Mary Catherine Stanhope.

Lygon married Lady Lettice Mary Elizabeth Grosvenor, daughter of Victor Alexander Grosvenor, Earl Grosvenor and Lady Sibell Mary Lumley, on 26 July 1902.

Educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, Lygon was styled as Viscount Elmley between 1872 and 1891. He succeeded to the title of 7th Baron Beauchamp of Powyk, co. Gloucestershire [U.K., 1806] on 19 February 1891.

He succeeded to the title of 7th Viscount Elmley [U.K., 1815] on 19 February 1891.

He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He held the office of President of the Oxford Union Society in 1893. He held the office of Mayor of Worcester between 1895 and 1896. He held the office of Governor of New South Wales between 1899 and 1902. He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) on 16 February 1899. Lygon held the office of Captain of the Gentleman at Arms (Liberal) between 1906 and 1907. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 8 January 1906. He held the office of Lord Steward between 1907 and 1910. He held the office of President of the Council in 1910.
