The earliest mention of a William Morgan located in Adelaide during this survey was in 1850, for a labourer, living in Weymouth Street. The next mention was in 1851 when the name was associated with a publican from Franklin Street. In 1854 and 1855 a man of that name was listed as a Grocer at the corner of Hindley and Morphett Streets.

In 1856, William Morgan, Grocer, of 99 Hindley Street advertised his business in Roberts' Almanac. It is unclear whether there was more than one William Morgan, as the advertisement stated that the principal was 'late of Boord Bros.'. Morgan kept this address until 1858, when he was listed there in the South Australian Almanac for that year.

Morgan advertised in The Adelaide Advertiser during 1858. His advertisement listed a range of goods including: 'Arrowroot, West India; Spanish Juice, Zolaxxis; Ground Cassia; (and) English Refined Saltpetre.'

In 1862 Morgan appears to have taken on a partner, as the only listing for a grocer by that name was for Morgan and Pollard, wholesale grocers of Hindley Street. The partnership does not appear to have endured for many years, as in 1864 Morgan was listed at 20B Hindley Street, without a partner. His new address was next door to another token issuing business, ironmongers Martin & Sach. In that year Morgan also took out a half page advertisement in the South Australian Almanac, which simply read 'William Morgan & Co., Importers, Wholesale Grocers and Provision Merchants, Adelaide.'

In 1870 and 1871 his business listed address was Currie Street, Adelaide.

Morgan's tokens are dated 1858, and were struck for him by W.J. Taylor of London.
