Cupboard or confinement?
This structure was found in the blacksmith shop at Kew Asylum, where it was once used as a cupboard. Before this, it was actually used as an isolation cell. It is only just large enough for one person to stand in and has viewing windows. Historically, asylum inmates were sporadically restrained and isolated. This was quite common practice before the use of sedation.
