The contemporary society the criteria used to decide whether a person is experiencing a psychological disorder are: deviance from what society considers normal, personal anguish and inappropriate behaviour. However, it is hard to draw a line between normality and abnormality.
Contrary to popular belief, people with psychological disorders are not particularly bizarre and most disorders are treatable. A person may behave in ways that are considered extraordinary without having a diagnosed psychological problem.
