The Australian Society and Technology Department at Museums Victoria focuses on the historical and contemporary experiences of the people of the State of Victoria. Its collections are an amalgam of two complementary collections which commenced in two separate centuries. The technology collections date back to the 1850s while the history collections have more recent origins. The Australian Society and Technology collections are diverse and extensive, comprising areas such as childhood, domestic and social life, working life, public and institutional life, immigration and cultural diversity, design, engineering and trades, transport technologies and numismatics.
