Bretislav Lukes was born 12 January 1922 in Stankou in Czechoslovakia. Following the war he trained as an electrician while in an International Refugee Organisation Camp. He migrated to Australia in 1950 and was sent to Bonegilla. His compulsory employment was for Australian Iron and Steel at Port Kembla, possibly on the Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme.
