Summary
Alternative name: Poster
One of two signs featuring guidelines for edge quality on Kodak colour photographic paper. These guidelines were used in the Paper Finishing Department, Building 13, where coated papers were cut to size in large automated guillotines. If the guillotine knives were not sharp enough, colour would leach into the edges of the photographic paper, colouring the white borders. The reasons for this are listed in these guidelines so that that problems in the manufacturing process could be quickly and accurately identified and remedied.
The sign is made of plastic and could be back lit when in use. The chart of images features varying effects of fracturing/chipping, SOC delamination, emulsion roll back and double cut
This sign was used at the Kodak Australasia Pty Ltd factory at Coburg. It is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005.
Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.
