Summary
Flag with the slogan 'Free the Refugees' it was made by the Refugee Action Collective in 2001 and used frequently at protest rallies. The Refugee Action Collective has grown out of a national grassroots protest movement in response to the treatment of refugees and mandatory detention. First established in 2000, it gained momentum during the Tampa crisis in August 2001. Flags such as this one were designed and painted at Trades Hall and all go through several approval processes.
Physical Description
Cream linen flag with black and red painted slogan 'REFUGEE ACTION COLLECTIVE. FREE THE REFUGEES. www.rac.vic.org' and image of Australia with man and child behind razor wire. Would have been carried with a pole threaded through side sleeve.
