Summary
Alternative name: Darkroom Door
A revolving darkroom door or barrel door used as a portal between light and dark work areas in the manufacturing departments of the Kodak factory site at Coburg. This would have eliminated light and air transmission and therefore reduced film defects. It was used in several work areas throughout the site, including Building 4 (Finishing) and Building 7 (Testing).
This object is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.
Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.
Physical Description
Large cylindrical plastic unit painted black on the outside. Has curved, corrugated sliding door and aluminium fittings.
