Portrait of a woman in an outdoor setting. She is seated wearing a white dress and a large white hat. In her hands is a piece of watermelon and positioned on a box is the whole fruit it was cut from, with a knife potruding from it. Behind her there is a garden and a verandah and sitting on her hem is a small dog.

The photograph is part of a group of six plates donated in 1994. All have been attributed to Harry R. Balfour as the photographer whose name is recorded in the original documentation which accompanied three of the glass plates.
