Image depicting a Yaghan canoe, with unnamed Yaghan woman and children seated within. The glass plate was most probably purchased by Australian Anthropologist Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer while in Punta Arena [Magallanes] in 1929. The image was taken by C. Veiga, a famous local photographer whose studio in Magallanes and images are well known in the region.

Physical Description

Full size with one small piece missing from corner of plate, and some silvering of emulsion. There is a narrow stain or watermark along one edge. Depicting family group in a canoe, Chile.
