Summary
Heptode (pentagrid) frequency changer (converter) designed for use in battery powered radios. Replaced by the octal equivalent 1C7G in about 1938.
2 V directly heated cathode.
The 1C6 was a member of a line of valves intended for use in "Farm radios", radios for use in areas not serviced by mains power. The filament power was usually provided by a 2 volt lead-acid accumulator or two zinc-air cells. These valves were also used in sets designed to run from a 6 volt battery which would also supply the high tension voltage via a vibrator supply.
"Radiotron" was the brand used by Amalgamated Wireless Valve Company (AWV), a subsidiary of AWA.
