Summary
Printed and coloured lithograph of the exhibition buildings, venue of the Melbourne International Exhibition (MIE), 1880-1881. The print was published in the supplement to the "IIlustrated Australian News", 9 Oct 1880, just one week after the exhibition opened to the public.
The International Exhibition ran from 1 October 1880 to 30 April 1881. The (Royal) Exhibition Building, designed by Joseph Reed and built by David Mitchell, was constructed especially for the event. Over 1.3 million people visited the MIE at a time when Melbourne's population was only around 282,000.
