Colonial and Indian Long Service and Good Conduct medals were instituted in May 1895 - those to Australian colonies were superceded in 1902 by the Commonwealth of Australia Long Service & Good Conduct. This specimen, with the head of Edward VII was already out of date when produced, none were issued.
Physical Description
A Royal Mint specimen silver medal (36 mm. diameter) with mount for ribbon. The obverse features a bust of Edward VII in field marshal's uniform, head bare facing left; around, EDWARDVS VII REX IMPERATOR; the artist's initials DES (William de Saulles) below the bust. The reverse has the legend NEW SOUTH WALES FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT.
