The Royal Victorian Medal was instituted in April 1896 to be awarded to people (British or foreign) below the rank of officers who have performed special services for the sovereign or member of the Royal Family. The award comes in three classes- Gilt silver, silver and bronze. Clasps are awarded for additional service for each class.

Obverse Description

Bust of Edward VII in Royal robes, head bare, faceing left; around, 'EDWARDVS VII REX IMPERATOR'; the artist's mark 'DES' (William de Saulles) below the bust.

Reverse Description

Royal cypher 'ERI' at the centre on a shield within a laurel wreath, below on a scroll, 'ROYAL VICTORIA MEDAL'.
