Summary
Distinguished Flying Cross, George V medal (specimen) awarded for service during World War I.
The DFC was instituted in June 1918 for officers and warrant officers in respect of acts of valour while in active operations against an enemy. In 1993 it became available to all ranks.
Obverse Description
A silver cross flore with arms terminating with roses, the top arm ends with a loop to which is attached a silver ribbon suspender bar decorated with laurel with diagonally striped purple and white ribbon. The horizontal arms of the cross are decorated with eagle wings while the vertical have propeller blades; at the centre, within a laurel wreath is the crowned RAF monogram on a rose.
Reverse Description
The reverse has the Royal cypher GRI and the date 1918 at the centre, else plain.
