Corporal Lawson was born in St Kilda in 1915 and enlisted in 1943 in the Australian Army Women's Medical Services. She was discharged on 24 February 1947, at the rank of Corporal. She was Mentioned in Dispatches twice: for her 'Distinguished services South-West Pacific Area'; and for 'Exceptional service in the field S.W.P. area.
Cpl. Laura Lawson was the daughter of A.W.G. Lawson, service number VX91465 whose medal group is also held by the Museum.
The 1939-45 Star was awarded by the British Commonwealth for service in the Second World War. Medal recipient's were required to have undertaken operational service between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945.
