Victory Medal 1914-1918, unnamed as issued, in Romania, 1918.

The Allies resolved that, if they wished to issue a Victory Medal, it would share a common feature of a depiction of Victory on the obverse and a ribbon of red, yellow, green, blue and violet merged into a rainbow pattern. The other Allied countries, with the exception of China and Montenegro, that issued Victory medals were: Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Thailand, the Union of South Africa and the United States of America.

Obverse Description

A figure of Victory standing facing with wings spread and arms down, in her right hand she holds an inverted sword, in her left a palm branch; she is looking front.

Reverse Description

A double-headed war axe within a laurel wreath; across, MARELE RAZBOI PENTRU CIVILIZATIE; around all a closed chain with the names of the allied states incuse on facing rings, FRANTA ANGLIA BELGIA GRECIA JAPONIA SERBIA [AME]RIC[A] CHINA ROMANIA (the word AMERICA is obscured bu leaves on the laurel wreath). The artist's name, Kris Tesko, is incuse near the rim outside the Japanese ring.
