Croix de Guerre medals are a military decoration issued by France to its soldiers and allied soldiers for courageous acts n the line of battle. It was only awarded to those who had previously been mentioned in despatches. Further acts of bravery warranting a mention in despatches were represented by a palm branch pin.

Obverse Description

Cross pattée with crossed swords. Centre bears a medallion with the profile of Marianne representing the French Republic. A laurel wreath sits below and framing text reads 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE'.

Reverse Description

Cross pattée with crossed swords. Centre bears a medallion with the dates 1914-1918. Palm leaf pin attached to green and red striped ribbon from which medal is suspended.
