Summary
Victims of the IInvasion medal, France 1921.
The medal was instituted by the Minister of Liberated Regions on 30 June 1921 in 3 classes (silver-gilt, silver and bronze) and awarded to those who had been rendered homeless or otherwise endured suffering resulting from the German invasion between 1914 to 1918. A bar "Prisonniers Politiques" or "Otages de Guerre" ("Political Prisoners" and "War Hostages") could be worn on the ribbon.
Obverse Description
Female victim standing, facing right with a ruined town in the far background ; above right 'FRANCE' in faint letters.
Reverse Description
In the centre 'AUX VICTIMES DE L'INVASION LA FRANCE RECONNAISSANTE' (France is grateful to the victims of the invasion) surrounded by a laurel wreath with '1914 1918' at the base.
