Summary

Ijzer (Yser) Medal issued by Belgium in 1918.

Awarded to those who, between 17 and 31 October 1914, were part of the army fighting on the IJzer-river (in French "Yser") and fought with distinction.

Obverse Description

Medal surmounted by a smaller green enamelled medallion. Obverse of main medal section has a naked helmeted soldier holding a lance beside the dates "17 - 31 / OCT / 1914". The enamelled medallion reads "YSER".

Reverse Description

Reverse has a roaring wounded lion on the bank of the Yser river. Below it is the inscription "YSER". The top medallion section bears the Belgian royal crown over the letter "A", the monogram of King Albert.
