Summary

Belgium War Cross 1914-1918 issued in 1918.

Instituted on 25 October 1915 as an award for bravery against the enemy to Belgian and foreign military personnel.
It could also be awarded to military personnel with 3 years of frontline service, to volunteers with at least 18 months of service in a combat unit (age criteria existed), for escaped military personnel who re-entered the army or for military personnel who, through severe war wounds, were invalided out.

Obverse Description

Crossed swords between the arms of a cross and a central medallion bearing a rampant lion. Suspension ring attached to crown that sits above the cross. Ring is threaded with red ribbon bearing green stripes.

Reverse Description

Features an 'A', the royal cypher, in the central medallion of the cross.
