Summary
Hanseatic War Merit Cross, issued by Hamburg, Germany, 1914-1918.
Medal was instituted on 10 September 1915. Each of the three ancient Hanseatic Cities; Hamburg, Bremen and Lubeck, issued a cross of similar design in World War I, differing only in the coat of arms represented on the central medallion. The medal was awarded for meritorious service during the war.
Obverse Description
Red enamel and silver cross with a central medallion bearing silver Hamburg arms of a three towered castle.
Reverse Description
Reverse is silver with central medallion inscribed: "Fur Verdienst / im / Kriege / 1914' (For Merit in War / 1914).
