Summary
Booklet titled 'Land Settlement in Victoria, Australia' produced by the Immigration & Labor Bureau, Crown Lands Department, Melbourne, for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, held in San Francisco, in 1915. The booklet includes sections that provide information for intending settlers including: irrigation areas, how to get from America to Victoria, dairying, wheat-growing, fruit-growing, vine-growing, and information about State Savings Bank loans to farmers.
This is one of many such booklets issued by the Victorian Government in the first two decades of the 20th century, promoting land settlement in Victoria, particularly through the financial support provided immigrants through the Closer Settlement Act. The main target for intending immigrants was Britain, making this booklet unusual as it was developed to target American migrants. Booklets were also produced to encourage city dwellers and other Australians to move to Victorian rural areas.
