This lantern slide is part of the Francis Collection of pre-cinematic apparatus and ephemera, acquired by the Australian and Victorian Governments in 1975. David Francis was the curator of the National Film and Sound Archive of the British Film Institute as well as being a co-founder of the Museum of the Moving Image in London, which was operational between 1988 and 1999.

Description of Content

Tableau vivant ("living picture") narrative scene depicting a man and woman standing with arms touching at a right angle to each other. The man has his head bent towards the woman and she is looking up into his face. They stand in a field or communal green, with a picket fence and two cottages behind them.

Standard format (3¼ x 3¼ inch square) lantern slide, comprising hand-coloured photographic image printed on glass with black paper rectangular mask against image under protective glass cover plate; sealed with paper binding tape around edge.
