Summary
Letter from R.B. Weerakoon, Secretary to the Prime Minister of Ceylon to Miss Monica Aron (later Gates), dated 29 April 1964. The letter is was written in response to Monica's letter of 10 March 1964 requesting a doll made in Ceylon dressed in national costume for her doll collection. The letter makes reference to Monica's illness, and her offer to send a national doll of her country to Ceylon.
The Gates collection contains 170 national dolls from 74 different countries and some correspondence relating to the acquisition of several of the dolls. The costumes of the dolls represent national costumes from the 19th Century to the 1990s. Monica Gates collected or was given these dolls between 1957 and 1990.
