Summary
Poster promoting the establishment of The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC), a Commonwealth statutory authority and the peak representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. ATSIC was responsible for administering many programs and ensuring the involvement of Indigenous people in government processes affecting their lives. In 2005 ATSIC was abolished in preference for maintaining state and regional level Indigenous organisations.
