Summary
Extract of Entry issued by the Victorian Government on 24 May 1955 to state that 'Samuel Gung was born at Carlton on 4th June, 1920'. Samuel was born in Carlton in 1920 to Chinese parents. At a young age he travelled to China with his family where he remained to finish his education and marry. In 1947 he returned to Melbourne with his wife and two children. He worked with his father at the Geraldton Fruit Company, and had four more children in Australia. The Gung family collection documents their experiences of immigrating and living in Australia from the 1920s to the 1960s and the gradual easing of the White Australia policy.
