Summary
Certificate No. 899958 issued by the Department of Immigration, Commonwealth of Australia. It was issued to Wing Henry J Louey Gung (Jeffrey Gung), son of Samuel and Mary Louey Gung.
Jeffrey was born in China and migrated with his parents to Australia in 1947. He suffered whooping cough during the journey and was nearly thrown overboard by the captain, who feared an epidemic. He grew up in Travancore near Mt Alexander Road, and recalls Arthur Calwell being a friend of the family and assisting them with immigration matters. The Gung family collection documents their experiences of immigrating and living in Australia from the 1920s to the 1960s and the gradual easing of the White Australia policy.
