Summary
Leaflet with information about the Cocos Islands, issued by the Orient Line. It includes details about the history, inhabitants, land other general information for Cocos Islands. It was given to Percival Alfred (Pat) Thomas on the SS Orontes, in 1955. Pat migrated to Australia in 1955, on the voyage he struck up a friendship with Amy McCloskey, who was returning home from a year's working holiday in England, the pair had dinner together every night on the voyage. Most of the immigrants on the voyage were put in the bottom half of the ship but Pat was on E Deck like Amy because he had paid his own fare. In Melbourne Pat left the ship, to stay with a cousin, and Amy returned home to Sydney, they corresponded and Pat visited Amy in Sydney. They were married in 1958 and lived in Noble Park. They had two children and often returned to England by ship for holidays.
