Description of Content

Aerial view from Spotswood looking in a north-easterly direction towards the Melbourne central business district. In the centre foreground is the Spotswood Sewerage Pumpign Station showing the two large brick chimneys demolished in the late 1960s. To the left of the Pumping Station is the ACI Glassworks and former Melbourne Glass Bottle Works site. Behind the PumpinG Station is the Lower Yarra River with two steam tugs heading upstream with a freighter or general cargo steamer in tow, croossing the point where the Hobson's Bay Main Sewer passes under the river. In the middle distance on the far side of the river is Fishermen's Bend, with a number of prominent indsutrial sites along the riverbank including the Government Aircraft Factories (G.A.F.), Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (C.A.C.) and General Motors Holden (G.M.H.). Behind the aircraft factories is runways of the former Fishermen's Bend aerodrome. Beyond G.M.H. factory can be seen the South and North Yarra Wharves and Victoria Docks, with the city CBD skyline beyond.
