Summary
Miniature model of a typical 16th century galleon.
The galleon was originally an oared vessel but the Spanish developed a sailing version around 1540 which was built for speed with a narrower beam. Versions of the galleon were built in England known as 'race-built, with a cut down hull for more speed.
