The Battle of Jutland was the only major naval battle of World War I. It took place in the North Sea near Jutland, Denmark on 31 May and 1 June 1916 and was fought between the Royal Navy's Grand Fleet (including The Royal Australian Navy and Royal Canadian Navy) and the Imperial German Navy's High Seas Fleet.
Obverse Description
The obverse features a legend in 12 lines within an oak wreath, MAY 31 1916 THE GERMAN FLEET ATTACKED OFF THE COAST OF JUTLAND AND DRIVEN BACK INTO PORT WITH HEAVY LOSS. ADMIRAL SIR JOHN JELLICOE COMMANDER IN CHIEF. VICE ADMIRAL SIR DAVID BEATTY COMMANDING BATTLE CRUISER FLEET.
Reverse Description
The reverse features a trident on which crossed White ensign and Union flags and a small shield with 31 MAY 1916; around, TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL THAT DAY
