Female Relative's Badge (with one bar), issued by Australian Department of Defence, 1914-1919. Issued to the wife and/or mother (or nearest female relative) of those on active service overseas during World War I. The badge without a bar indicated one relative on active service, bars were issued to indicate additional people serving.

Crowned silver and blue enamel voided badge with pin on back.

Within an oval, 'AIF'; around on blue background, 'ISSUED BY DEPT. OF DEFENCE . TO WOMEN OF AUSTRALIA .'; below, 'FOR DUTY DONE'.
Reverse Description
Stamped '234584' on the medal and '248371' on the bar; the maker's name on metal, 'Wm McLEAN & / MELB. / STG. SIL.' at back of crown.
