Summary

A tin containing a sample of poonac from Buitenzorg (now known as Bogor), Java, Indonesia. Poonac is the term for the oilcake that remains after coconut oil has been expressed from copra or fresh coconut. It is used as a manure, fertiliser or feedstock.

This sample was presented by the Netherlands-India Government via the Melbourne Consulate on 27th November 1922.

Physical Description

Metal tin with square base, rounded edges, and round press lid in top. Adhesive off-white and black label covers one side. It has handwritten and printed text, with illustrations of a scythe, winged wheel, two serpents wrapped around a winged staff, and a gear. Off-white printed adhesive label on side. Small square sticker on top lid.
