July 27th 1838 / CASHIER OF THE TAMAR (TAMAR crossed out and 'Derwent Agency' written above) / Pay to Mr Willoby or Bearer, the sum of / Fifty three Pounds ten shillings (two words I can't work out) / Buckety (?) Cheque and place the same to the account of / L 53 - 10 - 0 (signed and cancelled by crossing out) John Batman. The hand written display tag on the paper to which the note is glued reads - Mr. Willoby was Batman's Manager / He married Batman's widow in 1841 Note - Willoby should be Willoughby
