Summary

Letter from Aileen Cartwell to Mrs Ida Salter, wife of Robert Salter, dated 22 December 1939. The letter informs Mrs Salter that steps have been taken to rectify the cancellation of visas for Robert Salter's parents with their immediate reissue. It wishes she and Robert Salter well for their first Christmas in Australia and notes that an account for the cable sent on their behalf to the British Passports Control Officer in Belgium would be forwarded to them.

Robert Salter migrated to Australia from Austria, fleeing Vienna just before the German annexation of Austria in 1938. With the help of William Maloney, a federal Member of Parliament who befriended him, Robert was finally able to obtain permits for himself, as well as for his parents, his fiancee Ida and his friend who had accompanied him on the journey.
