Letter from W. Maloney to Robert Salter and Rudolph Brill, dated 8 November 1938. The letter provides instructions that the men need to following in order to obtain permission to bring out the fiancée of one of the men from Austria. Salter migrated to Australia from Austria, fleeing Vienna just before the German annexation of Austria in 1938.
He had applied for residency in Australia five months before leaving Vienna but could not wait for approval as he was in danger of being arrested. When he arrived that his application for residency had been rejected. With the help of William Maloney, a federal Member of Parliament who befriended him, Robert was finally able to obtain permits for himself, as well as for his parents, his fiancee Ida to come out to Australia. Maloney also aided Salter's friend Rudolph Brill obtain a permit.

VIC./Dear Friends,/I am not sure which of you gentlemen desires/to bring his fiancee out to Australia, but if he will write/to me making an application through me for the permission for her/to come here I will do what I can./I want you to state the name of the lady,/her address, and also state that you have already established/a factory with three girl employees and room for eight more/but business is so brisk that you cannot get these employees/but are advertising for them. I will then enclose the/particulars in a letter of my own, and I am sure you will/have a favourable reply./With all kind greetings and good luck,/Yours fraternally/(W MALONEY)
