Bronze strike of the Congressional Medal awarded to Andrew Jackson, by the United States of America, 1815. Major General Andrew Jackson was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for his actions in the Battle of New Orleans.
Since the American Revolution the United States Congress has commissioned gold medals as its highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions. Each medal honours a particular individual, institution, or event. Often off-metal strikes were later produced for artistic and commemorative purposes.

The reverse depicts the United States bearing an olive branch assisting winged Victory to inscribe ORLEANS; around above, RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS FEBRUARY 27. 1815.; in exergue, BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS / JANUARY 8. 1815. Below in small letters the artist's name, FURST F.
