Summary

Price ticket for a Kodak Brownie Starmite Camera, costing £4.17.6 ($9.75). The ticket is white, yellow and green, and is unused.

Starmite cameras were part of the Kodak Star series of affordable and highly popular fixed-lens plastic body cameras with built-in flash or flash attachment. Ten million of the Star series cameras were sold in five years in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The Brownie Starmite was introduced globally in the late 1950s but was first made in Australia after 1958. It is unclear when the Starmite stopped being made. However, the dual currency shown on this price ticket suggests that the Starmite may have still been sold in 1966 when decimal currency was introduced in Australia.

This is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.
