Summary

Commodore Model 8296 microcomputer and VDU. Made by Commodore in West Germany, about 1979. Used by donor (Toyota Australia) for compliance plate stock control. The computer was in use for about 10 years. Item was acquired more for the bulbous, "futuristic" style (which dated rapidly) than for any technological reason.

Physical Description

Cream coloured bulbus base containing central processing unit (CPU), memory and input/output (I/O) ports, with monochrome 30 cm VDU. The VDU is mounted on stand which can be rotated and the angle adjusted. The enquiry page (of the compliance program) is burnt onto the VDU screen, and is quite readable. The keyboard, which plugged into the front of the CPU module, is missing. Unit was originally used with cassette tape memory system. Power inlet, switch and data connections for Cassette user ports at the rear. Black power cable with EIC connector at one end and 3-pin Australian standard plug at the other.
