Summary

Paper badge or tag commemorating 'Australia's Heroes Gallipoli', Anzac Day, 25 April, and Remembrance Day, 1918. The badge was made by A. W. Patrick & Co., Melbourne.

Part of the Captain F.S. Laurie Collection. Captain Francis Stewart Laurie served in the Australian Army (regimental #SX619) 17 Nov 1939 - 26 Oct 1945. He was born in Burnside, South Australia in 1917, and enlisted at Woodside, South Australia at the age of 22. He served in Tobruk and New Guinea, and attained the rank of captain. He was in the 9 Division AASC (Australian Army Service Corps) at the time of his discharge. His uniform and other personal effects were donated to Museum Victoria by his widow, Mrs Betty Laurie.

Physical Description

A paper badge consisting of two plastic coated sheets of paper originally adhered together, but are now separated from each other. A hole is punched at the top of the tag and a tri-coloured ribbon is tied. The ribbon is red, white and blue. The tag and the ribbon is discoloured and soiled. Text and graphics appears on both sides of the badge in black and blue ink. An illustration of a coat of arms appears on the obverse in black, red, blue, green, yellow and gold ink. The coat of arms consists of a crown surmounting an outline map of Australia with text, a wreath and two scrolls with text.
