Adams china wall plate featuring an idyllic image of early Melbourne as seen from the Yarra circa 1834. The plate was created by Adams China, Staffordshire, England as a souvenir of Victoria's and Melbourne's centenary, 1834-1934.

Physical Description

Ceramic glazed plate, transfer printed in green, depicting an idyllic view of early Melbourne from the south side of the Yarra river. The image shows a pair of figures, two small shacks and tents in the foreground, and two tall ships sailing westward down the river across the middle ground. Numerous low rise buildings can be seen on the north side of the river and well into the distance. The plate has a detailed decorative rim featuring a transfer printed pattern of dolphins, cornucopia and Grecian urns, with a hand painted green border.
